Uluwatu temple

Many people make the trek southward to Uluwatu for the fantastic sunset views in the evening. However, the temple in itself is well worth discovering. Though Indonesia as a country is majority Muslim, the island of Bali is Hindu. Depictions of Ganesh, Shiva and other Gods are abundant throughout the island.

Uluwatu temple is a holy site and many people come to pray and make offerings.

Here's a bit of information on the temple. More signs can be found here. Photos taken in November 2016.

Life on the mighty Mekong

I took a daytrip from Saigon to the Mekong Delta. One day is really not enough to really get to see it all, but at least to get a taste of life on the river.

Houses are built to withstand changes in the water level. The river can rise and fall several meters during the rainy season.

There are also floating markets. Most of what's available is fruits, vegetables and the like. This woman had apples on offer.

Crystal reflections

Just look up and you'll see these colorful crystals reflected many times over in the golden ceiling of the Galaxy casino in Macau. More reflections can be found here. Photo taken in November 2016.

Lavish location

The casinos and adjacent hotels in Macau make Las Vegas pale in comparison. The decoration and spectacles are over-the-top with glitz and glam.

Ruins of Saint Paul

All that remains of the beautiful Saint Paul's church in the historic center of Macau is the facade. Unfortunately it was destroyed by fire and never rebuilt. Photo taken in November 2016.

Portuguese influence

The Portuguese influence is still very strong in Macau, a former Portuguese colony just a short ferry ride from Hong Kong.

Night Star

Anyone who has been to Hong Kong will know the famed Star Ferry that takes passengers from the island to Kowloon. It's a lovely trip to take any time of day, but especially at sunset. Photo taken in November 2016.
