Buddist murals
Buddhist temples almost always have some kind of murals showing the different phases of the life of the Buddha. This room was in the new temple atop Phnom Santuk in Kompong Thom, Cambodia. It's a very colorful room, and I especially like the way the sculpted tree is integrated into the works. More murals can be found at Monday Mural. Photo taken in December 2016.

Getting around in Gili
After seeing all the sights Bali had to offer, it was time for some sun and sand. We took the fast boat over to Gili Air. It's a tiny island paradise, just 1.73 square kilometers! These mule-drawn carts were a popular way to get from the boat landing to your hotel as cars and motorized vehicles are not allowed on the island.
| Here's a look at one in the flesh! Most hotels also offered bicycles to their guests. In about 10 - 20 minutes, you can cover the whole island. It's Monday again and more murals can be found here. Photos taken in December 2016. |

Fans of The Pirates of the Caribbean are widespread, they can even be found in Ubud, Bali! More murals from around the world can be found here. Photo taken in December 2016.

Unity
The city of Hoi An, Vietnam was an important stop on the spice route from the 15th to 19th centuries. For that reason, you see a lot of outside influences in the architecture and decorative styles of the buildings in the old town. This painting shows three different cultures coming together, a message of unity that's still relevant today.

An interesting way to entice people into Bagel Alley. It didn't work for me. More murals can be found here. Photo taken in November 2016.

Angels among us
You never know when you might need a guardian angel. Luckily there's plenty of choice in Lisbon! Photo taken in August 2016.

Brick by brick
I discovered this mural while wandering the streets of Lisbon last August. With the recent Brexit vote and continuing problems with migration, I found this to be a timely message. Are we building society up or tearing it down brick by brick? This mural was painted by Portuguese artist Andrea Tarli. More murals can be found here. Photo taken in August 2016.

Colorful joy
It seemed like there were colorful murals on almost every corner in Lisbon! I just love the size of this one and all the joyous activity.
Luckily, this mural had a signature. It appears to be part of a larger project; I hope this means these artists are working on murals in other places too. This one really made me smile. More murals can be found here. Photo taken in August 2016.

Funny faces
I love a little whimsy on something utilitarian, such as this receptacle for recycling glass. I found it during my summer trip to Lisbon. More murals can be found here. Photo taken in August 2016.
