The Angkor temple complex was the capital of the Khmer Empire which flourished from around the ninth to the fifteenth century. There are many temples of various age and in different states of decay. This figure guards one of the main gates into the old "city".
Here's the road leading up to the gate. Here you can see the figures in situ. They flank the entrance on both sides. I can imagine this was a very impressive sight for visitors back in the old days (and even now!). Photos taken in December 2016.

Faces of Bayon
There are beautiful, serene faces carves into the stone columns of Bayon temple. They are facing the cardinal directions: North, West, South and East.
Everywhere you turn, there they are. It's like having a benevolent spirit watching over you. Photos taken in December 2016.

Last look at Kompong Thom
This is a memorial to the people that stands in the middle of the town.
This sculpture was also nearby, though I'm not sure of it's significance. I hope you've enjoyed this tour of Kompong Thom, next week it's on the Siem Reap and the famed temples of Angkor Wat. Photos taken in December 2016.

Buddhas, Buddhas and more Buddhas!
The town of Kompong Thom is well-known for it's Buddha sculptures. People come here from all over Cambodia to purchase their very own Buddha. Temples also make commissions for statuary.
A trip through the village is definitely worthwhile as you'll see
Buddhas of all shapes and sizes and in different stages of completion.
If you're lucky, you might even get to see a sculptor at work! Photos taken in December 2016.

A couple of buros in Belem
I found this sculpture in Belem, just outside Lisbon proper. Such a cute pair! Photo taken in August 2016.
PS: Happy Thanks giving to my American readers!

Details in black and white
A look at some of the beautiful details in the Jerónimos Monastery.
I think they look especially good in black and white.
I can never resist a fierce lion! Photos taken in August 2016.

Big babies
These big baby heads were all over Rotterdam when I was there earlier this year. The sign underneath says 50 Years of de Doelen. De Doelen is a congress hall/concert venue in Rotterdam that is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year. The dolls are an art project sponsored by the city to celebrate 75 years of rebirth after the destruction of WWII.
Thank you to biebkribels for the explanation on the baby heads and the sign. Although I like the thought behind this exhibition, the heads are a bit creepy. However, they certainly get your attention! More signs can be found here. Photos taken in May 2016.

Statue of Faith
The Statue of Faith stands on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean in Old Jaffa. The whole sculpture is like a gate and this portion represents the Fall of Jericho. You'll find more skies here. Photo taken in October 2015.

Fire and water
Here's the "more" from yesterday's fountain. There's a reason why it's called the Fire and Water Fountain. Photo taken in October 2015.

Giant red snail
I'm not sure what these giant snails were promoting, but they were all over Sydney when I first arrived in Australia back in October, but they were gone when I left the country. In any case, I thought they were cute! For more red, visit Ruby Tuesday.

Another Vickie
Unfortunately, I ran out of time (i.e. lost interest) in posting the rest of my shots from the Farewell Canada Tour. I promise to get back to it one of these days. In the meantime, here are some shots from my Australian Adventure. Since I ended with Vickie in Montreal, I thought I'd start with another likeness of her in Sydney. This statue stood in Dublin, Ireland until the late 1940s when it was put into storage. I guess they did some spring cleaning in the 1980s when it was gifted to the city of Sydney.

The guardian
I don't know what the actual title of this work is, but I like the way she seems to be guarding this pathway at Taliesin West.
Here's a closer look at the lady. Photo taken in February 2013.

Inside a kaleidoscope
I found this public work of art on the streets of Scottsdale. When you walk inside and look up you see all these wonderful reflections, it really is like being inside of a kaleidoscope!
Here's a look at the piece from the outside, the actual name it is The Doors and Sound Passage. I loved the way there was so much public art in and around Scottsdale. For more reflections, visit Weekend Reflections.
