Many people leave offerings for the spirits that haunt the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Buddhists believe worldly offerings can appease unrestful spirits and help them find their way into the next world. Photo taken in December 2016.
I don't think we have to worry too much about the monks. I was really surprised to see most of them just like regular people with cell phones glued to their hands. I do wonder what they do with the "offerings" though. People also bring food to the temple (sometimes a really big spread). It seems it would be a shame to waste it, esp. when there are a lot of hungry people in SE Asia.
With a mixture of denominations, I see.
ReplyDelete...sounds like a bunch of capitalists.
ReplyDeleteI would hope, also, that the cash can help Buddhist monks, too, in more worldly affairs.

It will take many, many offers to make up even just a tiny little bit for the travesty against those people who suffered during the regime.
