Le charmeur

After lunch at the Tavern, we headed to the Belize Zoo. I typically am not too fond of zoos, but this one was really special. The philosophy is to keep the setting as natural as possible and all the animals are native to Belize. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by this charming fellow and his friend, the zookeeper. A charming welcome, indeed! Photo taken in December 2011.

  1. Excellent photo. I have the same feels about snakes as Indiana Jones. I hate snakes, Jock!

  2. I would very much like to like snakes but just can't do it. Glad there are folks like this, though!

  3. Terrific picture. We went to that zoo years ago and I had the same thoughts about it.

  5. Actually I'm not very fond of these 'touristic shots', but the truth is I have a similar photo taken in Thailand! LOL!

  7. Hmmm. So I am in the minority. I love snakes as long is they're not thinking of biting me. The Belize Zoo is an exceptional place, and its director one of the world's foremost conservationists. Sharon has turned the attitude of so many Belizeans from one of "Let's kill it and eat it," to one of appreciation. The local artisans are proud of the animals they depict in the art they sell to tourists and will happily tell you that the tapir is their national animal.
