Route 1

If you're ever in Key West, you've got to get a shot of this sign. It's the very beginning of US Route Number One which will take you from the Keys all the way north to Folkston, Georgia. Photo taken in May 2010. Visit Signs, Signs for a look at more signs.

  3. I've been in Key West many times but usually take a picture of the sign which proclaims the end and that Cuba is only 90 miles south!

  6. Been there, didn't get the shot! It's really cool to think about isn't it? And, of course, it's really cool to BE in Key West.

  10. Road signs can be so interesting and wonderfully historic too. I have friend who has photographed (seems like every single one) nearly every road sign over the past 30 or so years. Its a real treat looking back.

  12. I have always thought of US1 running from Maine to the Keys. When I was growing up we always travel north on US1. It was the way to go. Then there was A1.A It was a Florida State Road that ran mainly along the Atlantic Ocean, There were some sections from Key West at the southern tip of Florida, to Fernandina Beach, just south of Georgia on Amelia Island. As I remember it, it was the main road through most oceanfront towns. I have not been back in years, but would love to drive all the way to Key West on A1A. That would be so interesting. I love the sign. Milepost ). Pretty darn neat. Great post. Thanks for jogging my memory from my years in Palm Beach. genie
