I found this grave at the tiny cemetery on the Mont Saint Michel in Normandy, France. There is still a group of monks who inhabit the Abbey, so I imagine they are responsible for the decoration and upkeep of the graves. I found this one particularly attraction. Photo taken in April 2003.
To see more cemetery shots, take a look at Tapophile Tragics.
That is quite the ornate cross (with an out of scale Jesus!). I can't get used to seeing so many gravesites that are not surrounded by lawn as is the norm here.
ReplyDeleteSpecial picture, how the black cross is coming to the foreground.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,

The wrought iron cross is incredibly ornate. Kind of ironic. I wonder if it will turn that rusty color of those in the background.
ReplyDeleteVery elaborate, flowery cross! Those pansies are sure eye-catching!
ReplyDeleteNo comment. But I'm glad the monks have something to do! ;-)
ReplyDeleteits very well cared for!
ReplyDeleteYes, I like the pansies, too. Such reminder, to me, of the days of my childhood. I can see why you took this shot: it is very bright, and attractive to the eye.
ReplyDeleteAs for the out-of-scale Jesus: Jesus is an out of scale concept. Just not in the direction that this cross would imply!
I love all these photos that contributors are dredging up from their archives. Goes to show how long some of us have been taphophiles for.
The crucifix is fantastic!
ReplyDeletei never saw that on a grave!
