In the middle of the courtyard at Tuol Sleng there is a memorial to those who died here.
The marble slabs surrounding the main stupa are inscribed with the names of the victims. A simple, yet fitting way for these people to be remembered. Photos taken in December 2016.
Haunting, Hal.
ReplyDeleteThe names stretch on and on. Desperately sad.
ReplyDeleteIt´s an impressive sight to see all those names.
ReplyDelete...and there are so many memorials like this around the world.
ReplyDeleteYes. It's sad that we continue to need them.

Cambodia was one of my favourite stops on our SE Asia tour. The people were kind and open. Really amazing considering all they've been through.
Deletesome history is agonizing, but better remembered so it doesn't happen again
ReplyDeleteThe number of those killed during the Vietnam war and its aftermath are mind-boggling. This is a beautiful memorial. Cambodia has gone through much suffering.
ReplyDeleteI hope we never see anything like this again but, I fear that we will.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and shocking at the same time. This would have been extremely moving for you Hal.
