Indonesia is a Muslim majority country (except Bali), so on Gili Air there were signs everywhere warning not to walk through the village in your swimsuit. I understand the message, but the wording in German is pretty funny. It's Wednesday again, you'll find more signs here. Photo taken in December 2916.
...respect, something lacking today.
ReplyDeleteEach society has its norms, which tourists should respect more or less. Interesting sign!
ReplyDeleteUnderstandable.
ReplyDeleteI hope visitors from everywhere follow the norms of their host country.
ReplyDeleteSome people seem to need constant reminders.
ReplyDeleteNice One , Gordon.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Hal, the wording in German is pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteThe wording in Italian is ok.
In any case, the pictures are understandable.
Yes the German translation is a bit poor but I hope they understand :)
ReplyDeleteSomehow it makes me think of a rapper. He's got to wear his Respect Clothes!
DeleteI don't speek German, in fact I don't speek any language. I do speak English. So why is the German so funny. What would they do if someone walked around in a bikini? Or maybe I don't want to know... :) I think the sign is a good thing as some folks might not realize what the norms are.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone will *do* something to you if you walk around in a bikini. They just want to point out that it's disrespectful to the people who live there who dress modestly.
DeleteLet's face it there aren't all that many people who look good enough to walk around in their swimsuits anyway Hal 😀
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to wear respectful clothing.
ReplyDeleteOne person's respectful clothing might be insulting to others. The sign is clear enough, but I am a bit puzzled by their choice of languages. No Spanish?
ReplyDeleteYes its everywhere different.
ReplyDeleteVery nice sign. I like it has visuals too.
ReplyDeleteFrankly My Dear
we could use a few of those signs here too ;)
