A stroll through the local market at Kompong Thom is a must. It is so interesting to see all of the local specialties (though I'm not sure I want to try them all!).
This woman had dried fish on offer, which are used to flavor almost every Cambodian dish.
Certainly the display techniques take some getting used to! At least you know everything is fresh. Photos taken in December 2016.
I think I'd feel a bit queasy still seeing the feet attached!
ReplyDelete...a different experience.
ReplyDeleteFresh...yesss, that is fresh!
ReplyDeleteThey say you get to know a county by visiting a local market. Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the markets in foreign places. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteMarkets are so much fun but I agree, some of the food displays are a wee bit off putting 😀super shots Hal.
ReplyDeleteP.s. definitely an emu, a stunned emu 😀
colourful indeed.
ReplyDeleteReminds me a bit of some we saw in the Caribbean -- only the one you show here looks cleaner. If I were there i would probably wish I had a way to cook at least some of the stuff on sale.
ReplyDeleteWesterners have become accustomed to food that's very removed from its origins (some kids don't even know where eggs come from). Chicken have feet?? These photos really show us a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love outdoor local markets. Always so much to see.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos!
