Let them eat cake!

This is the Altar of the Motherland, known to Romans affectionately (or ironically?) as the wedding cake building. The name fits well as it's big, white and fancy. Everything you'd want in a wedding cake! Photo taken in May 2011.

  4. Omigod! I took a photo of this in 1957 when in the Navy. But it wasn't nearly as nice and now it's old and faded. I always thought this was a gorgeous building. Wedding cake, indeed!

  7. The story I heard was that the Romans called it the typewriter, and not because they like it. It's also known as The White Elephant. And it's the American GIs who nicknamed it the wedding cake. But I could be wrong... :-)
