Saugatuck statues

I found this work inside a public garden in Saugatuck, Michigan. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the garden or the artist. Any reminders would be appreciated. Photo taken in June 2011.

Village hall

No quaint Victorian village would be complete without a picturesque town hall. This one is just too cute and it now houses a visitor's center.

A peek

A beautiful swan peeks out at me from behind a bushy area in  a water feature on the campus of the Kalamazoo Valley Community College. I think he might have been protecting his nest. Photo taken in May 2011.

Dunes

Grating

The water that runs through Brown's Race is right here under your feet. I think geometric patterns like this always look good in black and white.

Hydro reflections

A part of Brown's Race is still used today by Rochester Gas & Electric to generate electricity. From here the water drops down into the turbines and voila... you have electricity! Photo taken in September 2011. To see more reflections visit Weekend Reflections.

Brown's race

Here's a look at the old Triphammer Forge. These waterwheels were part of Brown's Race, the old waterway that flows through downtown Rochester and is still used today to generate electricity. It's quite an interesting walk and there's plenty of history. You can find more information on Brown's Race here. Photo taken in September 2011.

Industrial building

I'm not sure what this structure is used for, but it looks good in black and white. I had lots of fun in Rochester and there are still a few more shots to show you! Photo taken in September 2011.

Bridge benches

Here's another view of the Pont de Rennes in Rochester. I've shown you the bridge from another angle, here is what it looks like when you're walking across. You won't find a car on this bridge, so it's a relaxing walk and if you need a little rest there are plenty of strategically placed benches where you can sit a spell and take in the view. Cosmic

Mysterious times

This is the Times Square building located in downtown Rochester, NY. According to wikipedia, construction began on this structure on October 29, 1929 - the day the stock market crashed. I guess that wasn't a very auspicious beginning to one of Rochester's most well-known landmarks. These days you'd be hard-pressed to find a Rochesterite who wouldn't recognize the aluminum "Wings of Progress", but for those of us visiting from elsewhere, the mystery remains. Street scene

Perspective

Here's another view on High Falls which runs through downtown Rochester. I'm amazed you can actually get so close to the point where the water rushes over. Photo taken in September 2011.

Old building

I am guessing this building was erected in 1873. I love all the old architecture in Rochester, the details are just fantastic! To see more interesting signs, visit Signs, Signs. Photo taken in September 2011.

Golfing bench

The Batavia golf course was fantastic to play and what made it even better was the landscaping at each tee box. There were so many beautiful flowers and they were so perfectly arranged, just wonderful! Photo taken in September 2011.

Another course

This is the clubhouse at the Batavia Country Club golf course, just outside Rochester. It's not really much of a country club, but the golf here was fantastic. And I loved the rustic look of the clubhouse and they way it was landscaped. Photo taken in September 2011.

Le pont de Rennes

This beauty spans the Genese River just past the High Falls. It celebrates the friendship between Rochester and its sister city Rennes, a place I happen to know very well!

Mill street

I love all the old stone buildings in the High Falls area of Rochester. It seemed that each one was more attractive than the last. Photo taken in September 2011.

Morning mist

A light morning mist hangs on the air over Ravenwood golf course. I really enjoyed playing here, the course was well-maintained and the scenery was beautiful. You can't beat that! Photo taken in September 2011.

Terraced restaurant

I would have loved to try this restaurant, but it was closed for a wedding. Maybe next time I'm in Rochester. This terrace has a wonderful view right over the High Falls I showed you a few days ago. I can see why it would be a popular choice for a reception. Photo taken in September 2011.

Blue bench

I really enjoyed downtown Rochester. All those old brick buildings give it a certain charm. And the benches are also rather comfy! Photo taken in September 2011.

Red door

I can't resist taking a shot of a red door. I've always wanted one on my home. Maybe one of these days...  I also like the stone facade and the detailing around the top of this building I found in downtown Rochester. Photo taken in September 2011. The Falls

The main attraction of downtown Rochester is the waterfall. It's not as impressive as Niagara Falls, but I still think it's pretty nice. Photo taken in September 2011.

Floral cafe

Another of the wonderful cafes that lined the streets of Rethmynon. Would have loved to stop here too! Photo taken in May 2011.

Tasty

This was another restaurant in Crete that I would have loved to try. Tapas and wine sound like a perfect combination to me!

Ironwork

Empty street

There was just something I liked about this empty street. It looks lonely, like it's waiting for someone to make some noise. A toddler perhaps? Photo taken in May 2011.

Rethmynon was filled with cute cafes and restaurants. I would have loved to sit down at one of these tables if I had had a bit more time. Photo taken in May 2011.

Moving on

After the monastery, we moved on to Rethymnon. It's one of those old port cities with a pedestrian area and lots of charm. Also a great place for photogs! Photo taken in May 2011.

Purple delight

The courtyard of the monastery was filled with floral delight. Every kind of flower you can imagine seemed to be in bloom. I especially liked these purple daisies. Sometimes the simplest blooms can be the most beautiful. Photo taken in May 2011.

Arkadi beauty

This is the beautiful baroque style Eastern Orthodox church that graces the interior of the Arkadi Monastery. It's the first thing you'll see when you follow yesterday's paved path into the monastery. It was fantastic to visit inside, but unfortunately photos were not allowed.
