Fire in the sky

The Disney cruise ships have something you don't get on other boats - fireworks! The show was pretty amazing and lit up the sky over the blue waters of the Bahamas. Photo taken in August 2010.

One fish, two fish, red fish...

Blue fish! My husband, the world's greatest fish paparazzi, caught this man during our snorkel trip in the Bahamas. This guy was actually blowing on the sand to see what was underneath. The snorkeling at this site was fantastic, but this guy was definitely one of the prettiest fish we saw.

The boat

Big man

One of the highlights of my trip was snorkeling in the waters outside Key West. I was just treading water and all of a sudden this beautiful sea turtle surfaced next to me. I could have reached out an touched him!

He was so big, I couldn't even get him in the whole frame. My husband (who was on the boat) said he had an arm span of at least four feet. Spectacular! Photo taken in August 2010.

Eagle heart

This is the European driving symbol for "do not enter". But this particular rendition is rather heart-shaped, don't you think? I found this on the wooden doors in the Castle of Nuremberg. This photo was taken in March 2007. To see more random hearts, please visit Clytie's place.

The army of clay soldiers in Xian, China. Some of the statues have been removed from their original location for restoration. Others are just like always.

The structure was built for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. It came to be under a terrible regime, but it's still a beautiful place. Photo taken in July 2005.

Fougeres castle

These are the water wheels at Fougeres castle which is just outside of Rennes in Brittany, France. I think everyone who's been to this castle has a similar photo.

I don't recall the name of this temple, but it was a lovely place to visit. It's only sad the weather was wet and cold that day. Photo taken in Xian, China - November 2008.

Round bench

Parts of this bench and tree were reflected in my reflection post last weekend. This little shopping square is tucked inside the Hackescher Markt area of Berlin.

A wind farm outside Nuremberg, Germany. I find these machines really fascinating. And the blue sky and puffy clouds just make the whole scene better.

Friedrichstraße station

One of the lovely S-bahn stations in Berlin. In the old days, there were stops for both east and west Berlin in this station and it was a complicated maze. Today it's still a major hub for the U-bahn, S-bahn and suburban trains and there's a big shopping center inside too. My favorite part is the beautiful interior of the S-bahn waiting areas. How can you not be impressed with all that brick work and those windows?

I-10 Bridge

This bridge takes you over the mighty Mississippi on I-10. We crossed it when traveling eastbound on our way home from Austin, Texas. It was a very impressive old truss bridge.

Sunset over Salvador de Bahia

Saint Paul and the royal poincianna

This is Saint Paul's Episcopal church in downtown Key West. As a bonus, you get a beautiful royal poincianna tree in full bloom! The only thing I would like better is if there wasn't that darn light pole. Photo taken in May 2010.

Reflecting pool

Oklahoma City suffered a terrible tragedy in April 1995. The Alfred P. Murrah federal building in downtown OKC was bombed. 168 Oklahomans lost their lives that day, including many children who attended the daycare center for federal employees which was on the ground floor of this building.

A very touching memorial has been erected to honor those who lost their lives that day. There is a chair for each victim and a shallow reflecting pool built from the granite that was left over after the blast. It's a good place for reflections of many kinds.
